Manchester United are all set to host Barcelona in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final at Old Trafford tonight.

This is the third meeting between United and Barcelona in a decade of the Champions League. The Blaugrana got better of the English side in the last two fixtures and both being the finals of the UCL.

The Red Devils have reached quarter-finals for the first time since 2013-14. Barcelona, on the other hand, are going to play their 12th successive quarter-final in the Champions League.

The last few seasons haven’t been great for the Blaugrana. After winning the Champions League in 2015, Barcelona have failed to go ahead of the quarter-final in the last three seasons of the UCL.

In the last season, Sevilla knocked out United in the round of 16 while Barcelona were knocked out by AS Roma in the quarter-final. The Blaugrana had a 4-1 advantage from the first leg but they lost the second leg 3-0, which ended their journey in the Champions League.

The Red Devils reached the quarter-final after making a memorable comeback against Paris Saint-Germain. United lost the first leg 2-0 at home and then made a 1-3 comeback in the second leg. This happened for the first time in the history of the Champions League. No club ever overturn the deficit of two goals in the round of 16.

Barcelona, on the other hand, drew their first leg against Olympique Lyonnais only to thrash the French club at home. The Blaugrana scored five goals at Camp Nou and swiftly entered the quarter-final with 5-1 aggregate.

Moreover, Barcelona are entering this contest with an unbeaten streak of 16 matches in all competitions. While United are going to face the Blaugrana after losing three of their last four games in all competitions.

The last time United defeated Barcelona was back in 2008. Paul Scholes scored a screamer and it took United to the 2008 Champions League final, which they won after defeating Chelsea in the penalty shootout.

Injury Update

Alexis Sanchez, Eric Bailly, Antonio Valencia, and Matteo Darmian are all set to miss this crucial encounter due to injury issues.

As for Barcelona, Rafinha is the only player, who is sidelined from this fixture due to injury.
