Manchester United are all set to welcome Chelsea in a must-win game for both the sides at Old Trafford, tonight. A win in this game for any of the sides will increase their chances of playing in the Champions League next season.
The last few games haven’t been good for any of the two sides. Chelsea have won three out their last five league fixtures while United have won two of their last five. These defeats at the end of the Premier League have put both the sides in a very tough position.
In the last league fixture, United lost to Manchester City 2-0 at home. This victory against the neighboring club has put the Citizens in a strong position of winning their second consecutive Premier League. Chelsea, on the other hand, played a 2-2 draw against Burnley at Stamford Bridge.
After the disappointing weekend for both the sides. Red Devils are in the sixth position with 64 points from 35 fixtures while Chelsea are in the fourth position with 67 points from their 35 league games. With Tottenham losing their fixture against West Ham, Chelsea have a chance of equalling their points with Spurs. The goal difference, however, will keep the Blues on the fourth spot.
If United wins this fixture and Arsenal lose to Leicester City, then the Red Devils will move up to the fifth spot. Also, if United wins this fixture and the Gunners defeat the Foxes then United will remain on sixth spot and Arsenal will move up to the fourth spot.
The Red Devils are undefeated in nine of their last 10 home games against Chelsea in all competitions. Also, the Blues have lost five of their last seven away games. United, however, have lost four of their last six league games.
Antonio Valencia, Scott McTominay, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are going to be sidelined from this fixture. All the players have sustained an injury and are still going through a recovery period.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have traveled without N’Golo Kante, Antonio Rudiger, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ethan Ampadu, and Marcos Alonso.
