Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera found the back of the net as Manchester United went on to defeat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. This was United’s first victory in seven years at the Blues home ground.
In our prediction, we told that Chelsea will score a couple of goals while United will get one back. Nevertheless, our prediction turned out completely wrong as the Blues failed to score even once. While the Red Devils scored a couple of goals to seal the victory. With this win, United have qualified for the quarter-final and will face Wolves on 16th May.
Herrera started the proceedings of the game. In the 31st minute, Juan Mata passed the ball to Pogba, who was present of the left flank. The Frenchman cut the ball towards his right and noticed the run of the Spaniard from midfield to the 30-yard-box. Pogba then made a perfect cross that found unmarked Herrera inside the box. The United midfielder made no mistake and headed the ball at the back of the net.
Although Chelsea were dominating possession, it was United who were leading on the scoreboard. This goal of the Red Devils boosted the confidence of the whole squad while Chelsea went on to back foot.
The Blues weren’t recovered from this goal as United scored their second goal of the evening and now the pressure was on the home side. In the closing minutes of first-half, Pogba made a brilliant through pass to Rashford from the midfield and galloped towards Chelsea’s box.
The Englishman took the ball to the right flank and crossed the ball inside the 30-yard-box. The Frenchman somehow managed to reach the ball before any Chelsea defender and headed the ball at the back of the net.
Within 45 minutes of the game, the Red Devils were leading 2-0 and that too away from the home. This scoreline stayed the same till the 90th minute of the game. As the Blues failed to score a single goal at their home.
The credit of this goes to Chris Smalling who appeared on the pitch after two months. The other key players for United were Pogba and Herrera. Both the midfielders worked relentlessly in the midfield and went on to support their defense line along with attacking.
