A do or die situation for both Liverpool and Napoli as they face each other in a must-win game at Anfield tonight.
This is going to be one of the most thrilling contests of this season’s Champions League group stage. Because it is a final chance for both the sides to book their place in the round of 16.
A win by 1-0 or with two clear goals will see Liverpool through to the next round of UCL. While a win with some different scoreline will see them exiting from this competition.
Also, Napoli have a better head-to-head record in the group stage and if they somehow score a goal and keep the difference of just one goal after scoring. Then, in this case, the Italian side will qualify to the next round.
There is one more possibility that can help Liverpool in qualifying to the next round. However, it is a bit tricky situation, as the Reds will depend on Paris Saint-Germain losing to Red Star Belgrade. If this happens then even a normal win will see Jurgen Klopp’s side in the round of 16.
Liverpool are currently on top of the Premier League points table with 42 points from 16 games. Also, the Reds are currently the only undefeated side in the English league. Napoli, on the other hand, are in the second position in the Serie A points table with 35 points from 15 games.
In Group C of the Champions League, Liverpool are currently in the third position with six points while Napoli are leaders of the group with nine points. Moreover, the blues are the only side among all the four clubs that haven’t lost a single game in the group stage.
In the last fixture between the Reds and the Blues. The Italian side emerged victorious with a last-minute goal that helped them in clinching three important points against the English club.
All these stats and performances of both the sides have made this fixture a must watch a game of this season. Also, one would have never thought that even the group stage games can become such important fixtures of UCL.
Joe Gomez is going to be absent from this fixture due to a leg fracture and Joel Matip is going to be a man replacing Gomez in the center back position. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain is another player, who is going to be sidelined due to long-term injury. Dejan Lovren has made it to the bench after recovering from the head injury.
As for Napoli, Vlad Chiriches and Simone Verdi are both sidelined from this crucial fixture of against Liverpool tonight.
