Real Madrid vs Barcelona, Messi vs Ronaldo, Pique vs Ramos and Real fans vs Barca fans. The world is going to stand still for 90 minutes because the biggest club football match in the world, El Clasico, is back.
Even though Barcelona has won the La Liga title this season, this El Clasico will be nothing less than a firecracker considering what is at stake. Ernesto Valverde’s side is attempting to win the league while going undefeated this season. Surely, Madrid would like to put the first mark in their rivals’ loss column in the league.
The Catalans are on the top of the table with 86 points and Real Madrid is in the third position with 71 points. The difference of points between the two just shows how good the Blaugrana have been this season. Barcelona has already completed double after winning La Liga and Copa del Rey this season. On the other hand, Los Blancos hasn’t won any trophy but are going to face Liverpool in the final of the UEFA Champions League on 26th May.
It will also be the last El Clasico for Andre Iniesta. The Barcelona midfielder announced in a press conference last week that he will be leaving the Catalans after this season. One of the all-time greats, Iniesta, deserves special appreciation from both the sides. And, for once, both the clubs should keep their rivalry aside and give a guard of honor to Iniesta.
In the last meeting between both the clubs in La Liga. Barcelona trounced Real Madrid 3-0 at Santiago Bernabeu. Dani Carvajal received a red card in the 63rd minute and Los Blancos were down to 10 men for last 27 minutes of the game. Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Aleix Vidal got their names on the scoring board from the Catalans.
It will be enthralling to see what Zinedine Zidane has planned for the game. Even though the game won’t make any difference in La Liga winners name, a win in your opponents’ home will be sweet for Los Merengues.
