Matchweek 18 of the Premier League was a roller-coaster, to say the least. A roller-coaster of surprises that made choosing the Team of the Week, a complicated process.
The biggest surprise was Manchester City’s defeat to Crystal Palace at home. Amazingly, this was the Citizens’ first loss at the Etihad stadium since the loss to Manchester United on April 7. Another interesting result was Chelsea’s loss to Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.
Both those losses surely helped Liverpool in their quest for a maiden Premier League title. A win over Wolverhampton Wanderers helped the league leaders open up a four-point gap between themselves and Man City.
Chelsea also were surprisingly beaten by Leicester City at home. Arsenal and Tottenham meanwhile, registered impressive wins. The latter demolished Everton 6-2 at Goodison Park with both Heung-min Son and Harry Kane bagging a brace. Another team in good form that succumbed to a defeat was West Ham who lost 0-2 to visitors, Watford.
Manchester United, in their first game after Jose Mourinho’s sacking, played some beautiful attacking football to defeat Cardiff City, 5-1. This was the first time the Red Devils scored five goals in a single PL game since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final game in charge. Undoubtedly, a very auspicious start to Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer’s interim management period.
Matchweek 18’s results were characterized by some exhilarating performances from right-wingers. So much so that we had to switch one’s wing in our Premier League Team of the Week. Central midfield was a position that had a lot of contenders as well.
Without further ado, let’s showcase our team. Keep in mind that we have used a classic 4-4-2 formation for the same.
