Casemiro is the first midfielder who found a place in our Champions League Team of the Season. The Brazilian helped Madrid in defense and made sure that no one gets to pass through the back line. Whenever Marcelo went ahead on the wing there was Casemiro supporting the Real’s defense line. The 26-year-old made 3.8 tackles per game along with 1.9 interceptions and clearances in his 12 appearances in the UCL this season.
There is no doubt that, if there was no Casemiro then Los Blancos wouldn’t have been able to win the title this season. The Brazilian always kept the defense and midfield intact. Also, he made sure that the midfielders and strikers get the liberty to go ahead and attack.
Milner is another midfielder who is going to play a role of right defending midfielder in our Team of the Season. The Englishman’s performances were impressive this season. Also, the midfielder was the reason behind the goals of the Reds attacking trio. The 32-year-old midfielder provided nine assists in this season’s Champions League campaign. And became the player with most assists in a UCL campaign after surpassing eight assists record of Neymar and Wayne Rooney.
Along with providing aid in the attack. The Reds midfielder was quite effective in the defense as well. The Englishman made a total of 2.3 tackles per game in this season’s UCL. The Liverpool midfielder was also one of the reasons behind the success of the Reds in the Champions League.
The last player who made it to our midfield is Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian played as the center forward in this season UCL and was quite impressive at that position. Still, I couldn’t provide him that position because there was someone who was more impressive as a striker. Also, Firmino is not only effective in attacking but also provides help in the defense when needed. This was the major reason why we have put him as attacking midfielder. Because as attacking midfielder he can not only provide help in attack but can also fall back during crucial times.
Firmino scored a total of 10 goals and provided seven assists in the 13 appearances of the Champions League this season. Along with being cracking in the attack. The Reds midfielder was quite solid in the defense as he made 1.8 tackles per game. The Brazilian’s linking with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane was mind-blowing and it won him a lot of praise from everyone.
